https://journal-sastra.um.ac.id/index.php/jellit/article/view/103

This study aims to explore accounting students’ perceptions of the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in speaking skill development within the context of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). As technology advances, the integration of AI into language education becomes increasingly relevant, particularly for enhancing professional communication skills in accounting. This descriptive qualitative research employed interviews and questionnaires involving accounting students from a university. The findings indicate that most students have a positive perception of AI as a learning tool, especially in improving pronunciation, technical vocabulary, and speaking confidence. However, challenges such as limited access, lack of technological understanding, and the need for guided use remain significant concerns. The study recommends a gradual and contextual integration of AI into the ESP curriculum, accompanied by training for both lecturers and students to optimize its use in meeting the professional needs of the accounting field.
Muhammad Lukman SyafiiNanang Cendriono

https://journal-sastra.um.ac.id/index.php/jellit/article/view/104

English has been introduced in elementary schools in Indonesia for many years. However, English is only regarded as optional or additional subject. With the status of English only as an additional subject, the teaching of English in elementary schools is frequently done by the class teachers who have no English language education background. To see how non-English background teachers actually teach English, this study examined the strategies used and challenges experienced by teachers who were teaching English without any English teaching background in elementary schools in Pekalongan Regency, Central Java. The writers used a questionnaire and interviews to collect the data from five teachers. The findings showed that the teachers in this study had no specific strategies for teaching English. They also had no initiative to develop any teaching media. Further, these teachers perceived their poor English, the students’ poor English ability and the poor school facilities as the biggest challenges in teaching English. The findings suggest that trainings need to be given to help these teachers develop strategies and media for teaching English.

Keywords: Teaching, strategies, difficulties, elementary school

Shiva KomahnesiDwi Agustina

https://journal-sastra.um.ac.id/index.php/jellit/article/view/94

This article analyzes what water symbolizes in the American History X film from a biblical point of view using Film Studies through the narrative element and various cinematic devices such as shots, camera angles, lighting, and color. American History X, aired more than 20 years ago, brings up the story of Derek, a white supremacist, who changes perspective and leaves his old life. While there have been previous studies discussing cinematic seduction and movie themes, this article will explore the symbolism of water through a Christian lens, examining shots, camera angles, lighting, and color. This article finds that water symbolizes a change in Derek’s life, perspective, and goals. Water in this film refers to baptism as the symbol of Derek’s first step toward redemption from his Neo-Nazi life. Just like someone who gets baptized, Derek gets a new chance at life and leaves the old ways. Baptism from Christianity perspective has elements of blood and sacrifice; therefore, Derek’s baptism also needs these elements. Baptism works because of Christ's blood and sacrifices for humanity. Derek’s Christ-like figure in his life is his brother, Danny. The family name Vinyard from the word ‘vineyard’ gives a close relation to how Danny became the Christ-like figure between Danny and Derek. In John 15:5, “I am the vine, and you are the branches…” signifies that one of the brothers has the role of the Christ-like figure. Derek is the one being saved because of the change in his life, and Danny is the sacrificial lamb, and the consequences Derek has to face because of his old life.
Timurita Fajaringtyas Agustina PutriHerditya WidodoMoch. https://journal-sastra.um.ac.id/index.php/jellit/article/view/260

This study aims to investigate the representation of throwing away K-pop albums (album dumping) as waste, in Aliralira’s threads, an Indonesian Korean interpreter and a famous Indonesian social media figure in K-Pop fandom. This study analyzes this phenomenon using mainly Cultural Studies and Semiotics analysis, which is used to analyze Aliralira's X viral threads. Album dumping is a phenomenon in the K-pop community specifically in South Korea, where fans would take photocards inside an album, which they consider the most valuable, and throw away the rest of the albums, including the posters, photo albums, and CDs. Consequently, this act led to the massive waste of albums in South Korea. Regarding this phenomenon, Aliralira’s tweets on the social media platform X represented and repackaged album dumping act to her Indonesian followers, by commenting and highlighting this behavior. By analyzing Aliralira's tweet's element, this study understood the act of throwing away the photocards reflect how South Korean cultural norm, or the resistance and deviation to it, are adapted for an Indonesian audience. The normalization of throwing away the rest of the album manifests a consumerist behavior shaped by ideology where fans accommodate the exploitative system while believing their actions reflect loyalty.
Fiyo Sani MaulidiaLauresta Rahayu PutriMelani Fadila QotrunnadaGanisya Risky YuwantiNabhan Fuad Choiron Ariani NovaHasti Rahmaningtyas
